Yes, you can do it from the very first day of your engineering. First of all, take out the latest syllabus of GATE according to your branch and then find out which subject came in which semester. Then, focus on these subjects in every semester and always read standard books on these subjects.

Hello Bushings,
How many marks in GATE will fetch you seat in a PG course is hazardous to guess. Normally, cutoffs are announced along with result. Your first priority should be to get marks more than cutoff. However, to get admission in good college, you need to have really good score. Only this will fetch you admission in the desired institute.

Cutoffs are decided every year based on many factors that are dynamic in nature. Total number of students appeared in that subject, total number of seats available, etc. As per the trend, every year more students are appearing. The trend of getting marks is also considered while deciding cutoffs. It is expected that the cutoff would be around 25 this year for general category candidates.

Hello Prabu,
In whatever field we appear, result teaches us something. it gives us feedback. It tells us to pause, think and then only move ahead. With almost 60 percent in B. Tech, you have a reasonable level of competence. Hence, I feel if you push through, there are chances that you will definitely score better in GATE or TANCET. Without hesitation start working towards your goal by achieving better percentile and seat will be yours.
Best wishes.
