Hello Patel,
First thing, these two exams are not compulsory. NEET (national eligibility cum entrance test) exam is for getting admission for MBBS a BDS courses in India.
GATE (graduate aptitude test in engineering) is for admission into IITs and other reputed institutions for doing M.Tech /ME degrees after B.Tech /BE
For medical, NEET is compulsory but not GATE.

GATE is for both B.Tech & BE students. If your degree is valid as per UGC & AICTE guidelines then, of course, there's no question about it. You can go for Master's degree or placements via GATE if you complete BE.

I appreciate your interest towards cracking GATE exam.
To reach your goals, GATE exam is really the gateway.
As you are in first year of your course, you need not to think about GATE exam. You'll start learning your core subjects from your next semester. Develop deep fundamentals and at the same time, aim for higher percentage in your semester exams.
Ideally, you can start preparing for GATE from 3rd year.

For GATE exam there is no weightage for 12th marks. You should have a B.Tech degree only with a good score to appear for GATE exam.
