In order to solve your query I would like to inform you that Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and Seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Yes it is totally possible and SELF STUDY is the only MANTRA for success in GATE.Coachings can just teach you and provide you with material but its you who need to study. The coaching material is easily available in market now days. All you need to do is just follow some simple path.
1) Get the syllabus of your trade and collect the previous year pattern of your paper and from there identify the subjects which comprises of maximum marks in paper every year.
2) Start with the subject that comprises of MAXIMUM marks to the subject with Least marks.

Your score doesn't assure you to get into top engineering institutions but you still have other options. Certain top universities in India conduct their own entrance examination to take admissions. You can opt for them and fulfill your dreams.
