MSc Geology is a post-graduate degree in Geology, which continues for a duration of 2 years following 4 semesters in most government and private colleges of India. Students who wish to pursue the MSc Geology course must at least secure 50% to 60% marks in graduation in a relevant field from a recognised university in India.

MSc Geology course admissions are based on both merit and entrance exams depending on the college admission policy. Eligibility criteria for MSc Geology degree varies for different government and private colleges of India.

  • BSc Geology

Geology courses are offered at various levels and the eligibility criteria also differ depending on course levels and institutions. Basic Geology courses eligibility criteria is mentioned below -

  • UG: Class 12 in the Science stream with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) from a recognized board.
  • PG: A bachelor's degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university. 
  • Doctorate: A master's degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university.

Hi Gouri, A candidate must have a Bachelor's degree with Geology as a major topic to be eligible for the IIT JAM Geology test. In addition to the Geology degree, the candidate must have a minimum of two auxiliary subjects from any of the following disciplines: Physics Chemistry Mathematics, or Biological Science. You may be ineligible to take the IIT JAM Geology test if you do not have Physics Chemistry or Mathematics as a supplementary study. I recommend that you read the official IIT JAM website or contact the organizing institute for further information on the Geology test qualifying requirements. Thanks!

The eligibility for M.Sc in geology or environmental science varies from college to college, but student must hold B.Sc in any life science subject. Some colleges may offer M.Sc geology to B.com and B.A students with high percentile or with science in 11th and 12th.

To be eligible to apply for Geology Course, a candidate must have a minimum of 55% marks in HSC (10+2). The candidates must complete 10+2 in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology along with English as a compulsory language from any recognized education board. Admission to BSc Geology is generally on a merit basis. However, some institutes may conduct their own entrance examinations like Banaras Hindu University.
