GITAM Hyderabad is a Deemed-to-be-University that offers a variety of courses in various disciplines. Since the criteria for joining the institute are not difficult, the competition among students is not great.
I suggest before you decide on a college, do research on a variety of aspects like college life, fee structure, faculty support, academics, placements and ROI, extracurriculars, alumni network, hostel and food, and anything else that clicks your mind about how you imagine yourself in your college.
See, small things like ambience, weather, and cultural activities also play a crucial role when you decide to spend three to four years of your life away from home or your comfort zone. So, I have jotted down some points that may help if you are planning to join GITAM Hyderabad to help you decide better.
Entrance Test:
- You need to clear GITAM Admission Test to secure admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at GITAM Hyderabad.
- The difficulty level of the entrance test is low to medium, making it easier for all kinds of students to crack it.
- The institute also accepts scores of exams such as JEE, TS EAMCET, AP EAPCET, NATA, GAE, AP / TS ECET & DCET, HSEE, TISS, CLAT, LSAT, UGAT, AP / TS ICET, NEET (UG), GPT, JAM, CUCET, CAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, NMAT, GMAT, etc.
Life at GITAM Hyderabad Campus:
- Every year, hundreds of students from across the country choose GITAM to embark on their journey of higher education, which is a tough decision for both students and parents of this era. In this scenario, not only academics but life in a new city also holds great importance, where language and culture both differ from yours.
- Many students from different corners of the country have spoken well about the GITAM Hyderabad campus calling it to be quite accommodating and helping them adjust to a new city.
- The institute provides hostel facilities for both male and female students on sharing basis. The hostel infrastructure is nice with furnished rooms. Rooms are spacious and you will get a separate bed and a cupboard. Washrooms are not cleaned on a daily basis but hygiene is maintained; you can definitely place a request with the hostel in charge to clean the toilets.
- To go out of campus for a night or more, a student is expected to write a letter to the warden and the hostel coordinator. The permission is granted only after the students parents approve his/ her outing, which I believe is a great way of maintaining security.
- The mess starts to serve from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM. The food doesnt have a wow factor but is way better than the food in other college canteens.
Academics:
Since the onset of COVID-19, like other colleges, GITAM is also trying to stay in the race with its efforts on blended learning. They have started to practice classes in both online and offline modes.
Extracurricular Activities:
At GITAM Hyderabad, you will also get to enjoy a lot of extracurricular activities. You can play basketball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, table tennis and many others and can participate in tournaments that happen every now and then. No doubt, the institute doesnt lack in providing good infrastructure to its students.
Fee Structure:
At present, the fee varies from INR 1 LPA to INR 5 LPA for different undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Just for example, currently, the fee for the 4-year BTech in EE program from GITAM would cost you INR 10,58,000.

Whereas, the placements are just average. To secure a good company and compensation, you must be self-driven toward your academics. A lot of companies visit the campus for recruitment, but the return on investment is not worth it.
In 2022, the total number of students, who could find a spot for themselves in companies during GITAM placement was just 90. The highest salary package bagged was INR 32 LPA.
So, coming to your question that how is GITAM Hyderabad? I would say it wont be your finest decision. Students of the institute say that GITAM Hyderabad has not focused much on its alumni network, which is key during any campus recruitment drive. Former students play a crucial role in bringing companies to their alma mater during placements, which is an absolute drawback here. Also, looking at the numbers, ROI has proven to be below average for such an exorbitant amount of fees, so I believe GITAM Hyderabad needs to work hard to establish itself as an institute worth its fees. These points cannot be ignored when deciding on joining a college.
