Shambhunath Group of Institutions is a private college. The group was established in 2004 and is affiliated with the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata is a government-run public institution, currently managed by the West Bengal state government. Though it began in 1886 as Asia's first private medical college, control was officially taken over by the government in May 1958, and it's been affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences since 2003. Recognized by the National Medical Commission, it remains one of eastern India's premier government medical colleges.
