Hospitality Management

The hospitality sector is a huge industry that includes a wide array of profiles from hotel attendents to chefs to cabin crew to fast food joints to huge resorts. A lot of these setups require a strong number of people in order to run their business successfully. The hospitality sector goes on 24 hours a day and it is a very challenging profession. One needs to be at their toes in order to meet the needs and for the satisfacton of the customers. One may face a lot of irate customers but a person working in the hospitality sector has to face them all without being impolite.
As it is a 24x7 sector, the shift timings may change and some shifts may be difficult to do as it would require working though the night. Also, the growth prospect in this industry is based on sheer hardwork and a lot of patience as an aspirant has to follow certain hierarchy in the companies they work for. A person working on a ship or a cruise liner would face even more difficulties both physically and mentally as they would spend sometimes almost 3-6 months at the sea at a stretch.
Overall the hospitality sector is a very challenging one but if taken into stride, one can make a good living out of it.

Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP)-This is a 3-year programme which provides an opportunity to students to get trained at any one of the 11 hotels of the Oberoi Group. The core operational departments under which training is offered are Food and Beverages, Kitchen, Housekeeping, and Front-Office. Apart from practical training students are also enrolled at Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) course, Bachelors in Tourism Studies (BTS). Under STEP, two programmes are on offer, which is: Hotel Operations Programme: Under this course training is offered under spheres such as housekeeping, front-office and foods, and beverages.
Kitchen Operations Programme: This offers training in India as well as Western kitchens. Training is also provided under operations of specialization such as cold kitchen, pastry, and bakery.
