The UPSC Prelims consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I (current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, environment, and science) and CSAT Paper-II (comprehension, reasoning, and basic numeracy).
Paper-I is used for merit ranking, while Paper-II is qualifying with 33% as the minimum score.
Both papers are objective-type with negative marking and are conducted on the same day.
