Though both History and Archaeology share some similarities, they are different disciplines. Candidates can refer to table below in order to understand difference between History and Archeology -

History

Archeology

It is study of past.

It involves researching about objects found at historical sites.

It provides authentic information.

It provides inferences and possibilities.

It does not provide information about pre-Historical societies.

It tries to explain social, cultural and economic aspects of pre-historic societies through artefacts.

There is not much dependence on research performed in other disciplines.

It depends on researches of other disciplines.

It is based on textual analysis.

It is based on fieldwork and analysis of artefacts.

Note: Info is taken from other sources and can be different.

Hope this helped your query! All the best!

Whether History is a good course for you or not totally depends on your interests and preferred career path. If you are a person who is fascinated about knowing about past empires, civilisations and cultures then you would find History to be interesting. It is theoretical and analytical. So, if you have a flair for writing and critical thinking skills you can score good marks in the semester exams. A good CPGA or percentage in college-level exams can help you at the onset of your career. Once you complete your course you can either pursue a PhD or start looking for jobs.
