Candidates who has a bachelor's degree from an Indian university with a minimum of 50% marks, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university are eligible for the IIM Shillong certificate programme. Further, candidate with a minimum working experience of two years in the development sector, government organisation, NGO, Corporate etc., are prefered.

IIM Shillong also offers a PGP Working Executive (MBA WE) programme designed for professionals to navigate change with new knowledge and business practices while keeping the work-life balance. Candidates can leave the programme after completion of core courses and attain an Executive Program in General Management (EPGM) certificate. IIM Shillong accepts valid scores of GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE or JRF (NET).
The below mentioned category candidates are exempted from appearing for entrance examinations but are required to produce two letter of references from their senior:
- PGP post graduate from IIMs or any other Institute or University featured in the list of Top 50 institutes ranked by NIRF with 6.5 CGPA and minimum 5 years of work experience after post-graduation.
Or
- Candidates with atleast 10 years of managerial work experience.

Candidates seeking admission in PhD Programme of IIM Shillong should have the below-mentioned eligibility:
- Post graduate degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate and a bachelor's degree with atleast 55% aggregate.
