No, you can not take admission to the MTech course at the Division of Mechanical Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, without the GATE exam. To be eligible for admission to the course at the college, the candidate has to score a minimum of 50% aggregate in graduation in a relevant stream from any recognised board. Eligible students will have to appear for the GATE exam and score a valid rank to be eligible for the course. There is no management quota or any other quota available at the college for direct admission.

Candidates who wish to apply for M.Tech admissions must have graduated with at least a 50–70% aggregate score. In order to be admitted to IISc, students must also have passed the GATE exam. Online applications are accepted. While the application fee for the SC/ST category is INR 400, it is INR 800 for the General, OBC, and EWS (economically weaker section) categories.

The institute has not released the course-specific data for 2023 or 2024 placements. However, the NIRF report 2024 is out. According to report, out of 106 UG (4-year) graduates, 4 were placed during IISc Bangalore placements 2023. The table below mentions the important details related to UG placements 2023:

The students who are pursuing their UG and PG courses in the IISER institutes (which includes IISER Kolkata) will awarded with the KVPY - Kishore vaigyanik protsahan yojana scholars as per KVPY norms .

Along with this they are also eligible for the scholarship from the department of Science and technology in limited range with 5000/- in INR . For this the depatment of Science and technology selects the students who secured the highest marks and Percentage in the entrance exams who are admitted through JEE and SCB .

The IISER Kolkata will provide the scholarships for the students who secured the good and top marks in the semesters. Till n
