ABMVU Lucknow was established in 2020, by the Uttar Pradesh State legislature as a State University, to be the central hub of medical teaching, training and research for all healthcare workers of Uttar Pradesh. As such, almost every college/institution in the state of UP, that offers education in the fields of Dental/Medical Sciences or degrees in Nursing/Paramedical courses is affiliated with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University in Lucknow.

The constituent colleges of Atal Bihari Vajpayee University in Lucknow conducted their 1^st Prof MBBS exams in the month of September in 2025. The admission fees for the BDS course at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University Lucknow depends upon the affiliated college/constituent the candidate receives admission in after making their selections/choices of institution. Candidates will receive a notice regarding the prescribed fee and final date from the University after successful allocation of a seat.

To apply for the Paramedical courses at the UG level of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, a candidate must appear for the Common Paramedical Entrance Test (CPET). Only candidates who receive a seat in a college that offers MBBS under ABVMU Lucknow will receive admission.

For the admission cycle of 2025 at Atal Bihari Vajpayee University in Lucknow the counselling process for BSc Nursing began on June 2, 2025 and ended on June 9, 2025. During this period candidates had to lock-in their choice of preferred institutions/locations and the results of seat allocation was announced on June 13, 2025.

Candidates who have appeared for entrance exams to enroll in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow must wait for release of merit list, after which they will undergo the counselling process where they must lock-in their selection/choice of preferred institutions or locations. Depending upon the candidate's rank on the merit-list and the competition for their choice of location/institution the final cutoff will be released on the official college admission portal.
