It is advised that students cover the entire syllabus in order to score good marks. As questions can be asked from any topics within the prescribed syllabus, covering the entire syllabus is the best option to score well. General Knowledge and English Language will be asked for each subject in JMI Entrance Exam. Since both these subjects are very broad and questions can be asked from anywhere, candidates must devote a lot of time to their preparation. If a candidate prepares or attempts the syllabus selectively, it will be difficult for him/her to score well in the exam or qualify for the next stage.

The aim of the written test of JMI Entrance Exam for M.A. Mass Communication subject is to test the knowledge and aptitude of the candidate and to ascertain the fact that the applicant is suitable for the course. There has not been any change in the JMI Entrance Exam syllabus 2023. In the past few years, the JMI Entrance Exam syllabus has remained unchanged. Prior to the announcement of the JMI Entrance Exam notification and information bulletin, there was an apprehension in students' minds about the JMI Entrance Exam syllabus change. Once Jamia Millia Islamia released the JMI Entrance Exam 2023 syllabus officially, through the examination website of the university, it quashed all the speculations regarding JMI Entrance Exam 2023 syllabus change. The syllabus is same as it was in the previous year.

Jamia Millia Islamia adopts certain policy to break the tie, if two candidates get the same scores in the JMI Entrance Exam. The tie breaking policy is made according to the programme. In all other programmes except B.Tech, B.Arch BDS the tie is resolved on the basis of the date of birth that is the candidates older in age is given the higher rank. For interview programmes, candidates securing high marks in the entrance exam is given higher rank.
