Hi sushmita,
Dear sushmita yes it is compulsory to give CAT or MAT because may score card asked by the good B-schools at the time of admission. still you have chance ti appear in MAT exam. MAT is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December. If you want to know any thing more then let me know on this post.

The validity of MAT score card is one year. So you can appear for MAT exam in both 2016 and 2017 for getting admission in 2017.
