Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.

Merchant navy can be joined after 10th as seafarer after qualifying pre sea courses or after 12th as an officer through various degree or diploma courses in mainly two specialized fields, Nautical (Deck) and Marine engineering so if you hv no financial burden, complete your 12th with PCM and then go for officer's training directly.

1 He should be medically fit by the approved Doctors by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India
2 He will go for six month course in recognized Institution by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India.
3 He will get Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) after completion of the training.
4 After getting the CDC he will join on Board Ship for Sea Experience.
