The National University of Singapore opened its doors “officially” on Aug 8, 1980. However, the institution first came to life in 1913 thanks to an endowment under the King Edward VII memorial fund & as a result was named: The King Edward VII Medical School.
In 1960, the institution renamed to the University of Singapore & eventually a 1980 merger between the University of Singapore & Nanyang University led to the formation of the National University of Singapore.
