Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, is an autonomous higher education and research institution established by the Government of India. The Institute has been accorded the status of An Institution of National Importance under an Act of Parliament (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act 2007"). The Institution has a dedicated Training & Placement cell headed by a Professor In-charge to look after the placement activities. In an attempt to give world class industrial exposure to students, the training and placement cell of RGIPT offers summer internship opportunities to its students. UG degree holders in engineering and technology are directly employed by a number of reputed Industries through campus placement drive. RGIPT boasts of placement of its students with handsome pay packages in renowned
companies like public sector units (IOCL, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, etc.) and also multinational companies (Torrent Gas, Wipro Ltd, Shell, Infosys. The graduates of RGIPT are preferred for placement in the Oil and Energy sector industries. Like the previous years, most of the leading companies and PSUs in the domain areas of Petroleum & Energy visited RGIPT for campus recruitment in 2022 and offered jobs to all the eligible graduates in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering disciplines. The highest package for Chemical Engineering this year was 16.69 lacs given by HPCL while for Petroleum Engineering the highest package was 22 lacs given by ONGC.

However, based on student reviews available on the Shiksha website, B.Tech. In Petroleum Engineering is preferred due to the opportunity of high placement in top PSUs like ONGC. This branch also had the highest rating of 4.2 stars. Thereafter, chemical engineering is preferred by aspirants who wish to get placed in government-owned companies. It is equally rated at par with the petroleum engineering branch. B.Tech. In Information Technology has been introduced recently, but students have rated it more than 4 stars based on the course curriculum and expected opportunities in the IT field. Similarly, CSE and ECE branches were also introduced recently and are doing well among students. Therefore, preference depends on student interest.
