No, staying in a hostel at SDMIM is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended for first-year students, especially those coming from outside the city. Hostel accommodation helps freshers to settle in the institute and better concentrate on their academics and participation in other activities without any distractions. So, hostel accommodation is better for students rather than daily travels.
