A TOEFL score of 90 is usually sufficient to gain admission into a US university. A TOEFL iBT score between 79 and 90 is often required by Christian Brothers University (CBU). Also, CBU also takes into account optional standardised test results and grade point average (GPA). At CBU, the average GPA is 3.69.

A TOEFL score that falls in the range of 90 to 100 is considered a good score. The admission requirements to CBU include a completed application form, official college/university transcripts, and GPA (min. 2.0 GPA is required).

The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) is 88. Some departments list minimum recommendations or requirements on their departmental websites and may require a higher level of proficiency. The minimum acceptable score will vary by programme for IELTS. In mostly cases, a score of at least 7.0 is desirable. Vanderbilt University recommends a minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL iBT, a 230 on the computer-based TOEFL, and a 70 on the PTE Academic.
