There are various ways from where tour operators can make money such as:

Markup on Services: Where they earn from markup to the cost of services like flights and accomodation.

Commission from Suppliers: They also earn commissions from hotels, airlines, and other service providers where they add up to businesses. 

Service Fees: The primary way of earnings for them for their services like VISA assistance, travel insurance, on trip support.

Few of the most common example of a tour operator are arranging sustainable tourism, adventure travel, and small group tours. They also emphasis on responsible travel practices. 

Intrepid Travel is one of the good examples for Tour Operator as they do not just book a package but curate unique and special tour packages as well.

To become a Tour Operator in India you need to have a Degree/Diploma in Travel/Tourism from recognised university/IITTM/Institution approved by AICTE. The candidate should also have a 3 years working experience in the Travel and Tourism Industry.
