Rankings questions always sound straightforward, but I learned the hard way that they're easy to misread if you don't look at context. When I was researching UK universities a few years ago, I kept seeing UEL move up and down across different league tables and it felt confusing at first.

The issue is that rankings don't a single thing. Some years UEL does better on employability, student diversity, or industry links, while it may slip on research output or citations, which affects global rankings more. Once I stopped treating rankings as a fixed “score” and started looking at why they changed, the picture made more sense.

Yes, the journalism programme at UEL London is considered very good. As per Shiksha Rankings 2026, BJMC programs are ranked #17 in UK. Students get to learn about how to create content for different media, like radio, video, print, and digital platforms. The programme gives a strong emphasis to hands-on experience to make students industry-ready.

Sports and Data Journalism are the two more popular specialisations in which students can pursue the program. Many graduates have gone on to work for local media in the UK, like BBC, ITV, and Sky Sports.
