Rankings questions always sound straightforward, but I learned the hard way that they're easy to misread if you don't look at context. When I was researching UK universities a few years ago, I kept seeing UEL move up and down across different league tables and it felt confusing at first.

The issue is that rankings don't a single thing. Some years UEL does better on employability, student diversity, or industry links, while it may slip on research output or citations, which affects global rankings more. Once I stopped treating rankings as a fixed “score” and started looking at why they changed, the picture made more sense.
