The position of Head of Department (HoD) or Associate Professor in universities like UPES School of Design can be held without a PhD under certain exceptional cases mentioned below:
Exceptions of UGC Guidelines: UCG guidelines permit those with experience in the relevant field and having given so much to the discipline to also become faculty as it is not mandatory for them to have a PhD. This holds more ground in professional or design disciplines, where experience is more precious than qualification.

As per the decree of the University Grants Commission (UGC), starting July 2023, possessing a Ph.D. is mandatory to hold an appointment in Assistant Professor capacity in any Indian University.
Subscribing to UGC guidelines, UPES has its own set of faculty recruitment policies. For example, one of the recruitment notifications at UPES that are released recently for the Professor position reads: "the candidate must possess a Ph.D. in the concerned domain with an excellent academic track, covering research work and publications".

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) follows the norms set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the engagement of external examiners in Ph.D. programs of the university. The rules in the Ph.D. programme of the university state that there are two external examiners for a thesis, and one of them must be from a foreign country. External examiners would usually be professors or associate professors in a deemed or recognised university.

Both Vel Tech and UPES are good options to pursue BCom LLB. However, to judge based on economicity, Vel Tech is more affordable since the tuition fees to pursue BCom LLB at Vel Tech is INR 6 lakh, and the total tuition fee to pursue BCom LLB at UPES is INR 20.4 lakh.

Vel Tech and UPES are both good options. However, in order to choose one, students must weigh both options based on important factors such as fees and median package. As per official sources, the fees to pursue BCom LLB (H) at Vel Tech is INR 6 lakh. On the other hand, the fee to pursue BCom LLB (H) at UPES is INR 20.14 lakh. In terms of fees, Vel Tech is a better choice.
Moreover, as per the Shiksha placement page, the median packages offered at Vel Tech and UPES are INR 2.50 Lacs and INR 4.50 lakh, respectively. In terms of placements, UPES is a better choice for BCom LLB.

Admission to BTech CSE at UPES Dehradun is done based on the scores obtained in JEE Main and UPESEAT exams. Find their overall syllabus below:
JEE Main: JEE Main primarily includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics based on the NCERT Class 11 & 12 curriculum.
