Yes, the prelims syllabus is different from the main exam syllabus but there are overlapping topics in both. The WBPSC WBCS syllabus for the prelims and Mains exam is mentioned separately in the official notification. The Prelims exam focuses on testing candidates' general knowledge across various subjects like English, Science, History, Geography, Economics, Polity, Indian National Movement, Mental Ability, and Current Affairs. It consists of 200 objective questions with a total of 200 marks.

The West Bengal Public Service Commission has changed the WBCS syllabus and exam pattern. The Commission released an official notice in this regard on its official website.
