‘Papa kehte hain bada naam karega...beta hamara engineer banega'. And I am sure all our budding aspirants are burning the midnight oil to make their dad's dream come true. But are you sure that you will continue in this field once successful and also materialize your nation's dream-which faces a lack of qualified engineers? Well here is something you must know. According to profile of the latest batch of IIM-Indore, for the flagship two-year Post Graduate Programme (PGP) for 2011-13 academic session, out of the total 450 students 405 are with engineering background. Experts say that this rising management education trend is due to the fat pay-packages and growing interest in white-collar jobs.

This might not be a shocking revelation for our students but the worrisome part is that our country seriously needs more research and qualified engineering graduates. Graduates might jump defending themselves that an MBA degree boosts their career prospects. However, the truth remains that India is witnessing revolution in technology sectors where well read and qualified engineers are always welcome.

According to Anand Kumar of Bihar's reputed 'Super-30' coaching, the prevailing management education trend after engineering is unfortunate. Anand said that if someone wanted to become a manager eventually, he should not take up admission to the prestigious IITs for engineering course. The famed teacher also said that in the wake of the scenario where there is shortage of qualified engineers, students are doing injustice to those who could not get into IITs. Anand was also of the opinion that this trend must be discouraged.
