Telephone Hotline and Virtual Information Hub for Students Soon
In the wake of the constant raids and charges of fraud on various universities, U.S Embassy has said that Indian students must choose the college with caution. The suggestion was given after authorities in Annandale, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, raided on charges of fraud the offices of a university with 90 percent of the 2,400 students from India and a majority of them from Andhra Pradesh. Therefore to prevent from such traps U.S authorities are planning to set up a Virtual Information Hub and Telephone Hotline for students.
In the embassy, the number of Indian students who have applied for visas to study in US increased by 20 percent over the same period last year. The embassy also said that, over one lakh Indian students are currently studying at universities across the US, and thousands more will join them in the coming academic year.
As per the embassy statement, it is essential for students to remain updated of physical attendance at classes (taking only online courses) is not acceptable. Moreover, failure to maintain a full course load and unauthorized employment will lead to immediate violation of status.
The U.S. embassy will also provide accurate and free information, which will enable students and their families to thoroughly check the credentials of the schools and to save them from visa fraud. Also, in the long run, the proposed Virtual Information Hub and Telephone Hotline for students will most likely prove to be beneficial.
Adding more awareness, it said that violating the terms of a visa can lead to deportation, arrest and even a bar on future travel to the country.
