Gone are the days when parents would pursue their wards to go for traditional courses like engineering, medicine or law. Now the young guns are all set to give their own calls and choose the road less travelled with unconventional courses. The present generation is not at all hesitant in opting for streams like fashion, jewellery and interior designing, animation, acting, photography, advertising, event management and aviation.

The fact is that these courses offer widespread and challenging prospects along with attractive pay packages. In their journey of career choices, the parents are supporting their children to the fullest. The children on the other hand are pretty sure about their discretions and ready to try any career under the sun.

Talking to Shiksha, Priyanka Kapoor of a reputed school says that her decision to become a filmmaker was a dream cherished by her for a long time. She pursued her career with sincerity and also that now her parents are proud of her profession.

Students these days are taking up courses like radio jockeying. For them, it is one of the most sought after and hottest career options. Their passion in the profession is evident from the fact that they work hard and keep themselves updated with latest musical trends in the industry. Neelema, a graduate from Delhi University says that opting for unconventional courses should not be feared. According to her she always wanted to become an RJ and thus worked on her language skills and general knowledge. Neelema is of the opinion that it is a wrong notion that such careers are best as part time jobs.

This trend shows that students now want to venture and look for a satisfying career along with a good pay. It is also a good sign that students are opting for humanities and vocational courses these days. On one hand the youngsters are enjoying the stream chosen by them, the parents on the other hand have no issues with the dreams nourished by their kids. They are of the opinion that at the end of the day, the happiness of their children is what matters for them the most.
