    Deserving and meritorious students are offered scholarships by MGR Medical University based on their academic performance and other criteria. Here are some of scholarships available at MGR Medical University:

    • Tamil Nadu Government Scholarship: SC/ ST/ OBC students are eligible to get scholarship, they have scored 75 percent in their Class 12 and obtain a certain percentage in entrance examination.
    • MGR Medical University Need-cum-Merit Scholarship: Students from minority communities are eligible to get scholarship if they secure 75 percent in Class 12.
    • Students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are also eligible to apply for scholarship offered by University.

    The Tamil Nadu Medical University Act, 1987 (Act No.37 of 1987) received the assent of the President of India on 24th September 1987. By Act No. 39 of 1991, it was amended that the Act may be called “The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, Act, 1987. This affiliating University governed by the said Act started functioning in July 1988. The Students admitted to the various Medical and Paramedical courses after 1st March 1988 come under this Medical University as per Government notification issued in GOMs No.1628/ Health, Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy and Family Welfare Department dated 23rd August 1988.

    The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University is situated in the Southern part of the City of Chennai (formerly Madras) in the State of Tamil Nadu, South India. It is about 6 Km from the Chennai International & National Airport and about 12 Km from the Chennai Central Railway Station. MGR Medical University is one of the premier medical universities named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, (late) Hon. Dr. MG Ramachandran (MGR) and it is the second the largest Health Sciences University in India.

    Yes, MGR Medical University offers a six-year full-time Pharma D programme comprising five years of study and one year of internship or residency. MGR Medical University Pharma D admissions are entirely merit-based.

    The MGR University promotes research, disseminates knowledge, and is eligible for central assistance under UGC Act 1956 (UGC letter No. F.9-14/2007 [CPP-I] dt 12.3.2008). MGR University is the only Medical University in Tamil Nadu that is capable of granting affiliation to new institutions under Government or Self-financing in Medical, Dental, Indian Medicine/Homoeopathy & Allied Health Sciences (Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and many others) and awarding degrees under a single umbrella to maintain uniform and high standards of education. Until 1988, all degrees in Health Sciences were awarded by the University of Madras. 

    Q:   Is Pharma D costly at MGR Medical University?
    A: 

    MGR Medical University provides Doctor of Pharmacy course through its various affiliated colleges. The fee varies as per the college. Pharma D programme at MGR Medical University ranges between INR 1.3 lakh and INR 18.2 lakh. It is certainly on the expensive end of the spectrum when compared to some of the other Doctor of Pharmacy programmes offered by other universities. Students may be eligible for tuition fee waivers provided they fulfil the eligibility criteria required for it.     Minimally satisfied because of the classes and faculty members.
    Placements: Many of them got placed. They provide internships in Tamilnadu and provide well-set hospitals. Among 6 month of internship, there are many facilities provided by the college. After internships, we can make a clinic set-up and treat the patients to gain more knowledge.
    Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, a library, an exercise therapy lab, and a demonstration hall are available in the college. Many hospital visits are given to students. There are two cafes and two food courts. Mario and Juice World are available in the college. The food quality is so good.
    Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable. The teaching is good. The course curriculum is different from the school. Teachers are very good at teaching. They share their experience with us. It is very good to treat patients. They even give practical classes.

    Future physiotherapists of Cherans .
    Placements: Mostly 80% of students got placed in our college in various health care and hospitals. The highest salary is 1.15 lacs per annum, and the lowest salary is 1 lacs per annum. Top companies are Access Health Care, Evanston Healthcare, Ganga Hospital, VGM Hospital, and Coimbatore Physiotherapy Clinic.
    Infrastructure: Our college has a good infrastructure with neat classrooms and a library, and our class room has a light fan. Wi-Fi connection is also available in our college. Our library has so many books, so it's very useful for us. Our college content sports events with other colleges.
    Faculty: Our teachers all are well studied staffs All are studied MPT within a course. They treated her children as if they were hers. In our college, they provide amazing study skills to us, so that's very helpful to us, so we are attending semester exams very well. Yearly, we have one semester exam.
    Other: I am well interested in rehabilitation, so I chose this course. We have more scope around Arabic and European countries. We need to improve our knowledge and assess patients by our own knowledge without a diagnosis like an x-ray scan, etc. We have cultural events and festivals like Onam, Pongal, etc. that will be celebrated and camps like blood camps, eye camps, physiotherapy camps, etc.

    Five years of my college journey.
    Placements: We are allowed to work as an intern throughout the completion of the course. Also, we are required to attend paid internships where we can learn a lot about the theoretically studied concepts. The highest salary package offered to well-experienced students is 12.6 LPA.
    Infrastructure: Essential apparatus that are available in required limits to prevent shortage during experimentations. It's a clean and hygienic campus with a highly maintained security system. Students are monitored at all times. We won't roam unnecessarily inside the campus.
    Faculty: We have only one-semester examination throughout the year. But in the middle, we have a lot of internals and model examinations. We are required to write a lot of practice tests apart from the class tests conducted by the class teachers. Scholarships are provided to students based on academic performance.

    College for physiotherapy.
    Placements: Physiotherapy is one of the leading courses these days. So, after medical, most of the students were focused on becoming physiotherapists. Some of the graduated students started their own ventures and reached higher positions. Most of the students got a lot of offers in rehabilitation centres and hospitals.
    Infrastructure: As a green and stress-free environment, our library, which was equal to a large encyclopedia composed of all types of books, was available anytime when we needed it. Also, individual hostel facilities with all the necessities were available. And we had versatile sports facilities.
    Faculty: Our college is well known for its excellence in academic performances. We have frequent examinations, tests, and we don't have time to concentrate on anything. Arrear papers were very much harder than the current papers. So it's better to clear exams in the first attempt itself.

    Placements: Mostly, we are actively placed in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Most of the recruiters pay an average salary package of 4.3 LPA. Also, they may pay a higher package of 6.7 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 2.8 LPA.
    Infrastructure: We have all indoor and outdoor sports facilities within the sports area. There is a vast sport area to play and relax. They build a yoga class and a gym class, considering the mental health of students. All laboratories are maintained with all the required apparatus.
    Faculty: All our teachers are highly knowledgeable, qualified, and experienced. We must study throughout the whole year to clear exams in the first attempt itself because question paper setups in arrear examinations are very much tougher. To score above 80%, we must study all concepts.

    A college to learn a lot of things.
    Placements: The maximum, average and minimum salary packages offered by recruiters will be 11.7 lakhs, 5.4 lakhs and 3.1 lakhs per year. Initially, we had some probationary period for 6 months. Afterwards, we were shifted to some higher positions with an increase in salary package.
    Infrastructure: In hostels, food is prepared in a hygienic way and it is served within some specific time period. So we should be on-time to hostel laundries for having our lunch. All the apparatus in our laboratories were newly imported on the start of each year and they are also tested often to know that they are in proper condition or not
    Faculty: Highly experienced professors in the field of physiotherapy. Also, some of the guest lecturers were often arranged by our professors to know more about case studies and to learn some experience. Also, we have higher academic performance in terms of percentage.

    There is no mention of provisional admissions being granted for MGR University BSc admissions. Generally, institutes that select candidates on merit of Class 12 board exams do not offer admissions without the Class 12 board exam marksheet.

    No, the BSc admissions are yet to be opened at MGR University for the academic year 2026. Candidates can expect the admissions to open around the month of May or April for the MGR University BSc course.
