All about Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management: Courses offered, admission process & placement details

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, experts from the SIOM Nashik - Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management share how a student could get admission, courses they could apply for and the future opportunities that they could avail of.

Here is an edited excerpt of the interview.

Q: What is the process to get admission in SIOM?

A: For admission to SIOM, aspirants need to apply for Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) test at snaptest.org and register for SIOM on the same portal separately.

Once shortlisted on the basis of SNAP score and profile, aspirants will get call letters for Group Exercise, Written Ability test and Personal Interview rounds at SIOM Nashik campus. And only engineering graduates are eligible to apply.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria for admission in PGDM?

A: A candidate should be an Engineering graduate (BE/B.Tech of any stream) from a statutory University with minimum of 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for SC/ST candidates). Candidates appearing for final year examinations can also apply, but their admission will be subject to obtaining a minimum of 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for SC/ST) in the qualifying examination. A candidate who has completed qualification from any foreign university must obtain an equivalence certificate from Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Having work experience will add value to your profile. However, even if the candidate is a fresher, SIOM provides equal opportunities to everyone.  Candidates with no work experience can build their profile with live projects and summer internship opportunities offered at SIOM giving them real industry exposure.

Q: What is considered to be a good SNAP score to get admission in SIOM?

A: Anything above 85 percentile can be considered as good. However, the cutoff that may vary every year depending on the applications.

Q: What is the fee structure? Does the institute assist students in getting education loan for admission if students opt for career in operations? And, does the college provide internship facilities?

A: The fee for 2018 batch was Rs 14.27 lakh, however, it will be revised for the coming batches. You could refer to our website for the fees structure.

For loans, we have assistance provided to candidates taking admission through Indian Bank, which we have a tie up with. We also facilitate students with internship opportunities.

Q: Does Six Sigma or other relevant technical courses add value to candidate’s profile?

A: Yes, Six Sigma Green belt definitely adds value to your profile. SIOM now offers Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification as a part of curriculum subject to qualifying norms.

Also, you can do certifications relevant to Operations, supply chain management, advanced excel etc.

Q: What facilities does SIOM premises offer to students?

A: SIOM has fine infrastructure. Indoor and outdoor games facilities are available. Hostel facilities are available. In addition to this we have state of the art Gym facility as well.

Q: Does SIOM provides distance courses?

A: SIOM offers a full time MBA course in Operations Management. Distance course is not offered.
