CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2018: English Paper Analysis by Board Examiner
CBSE Class XII English Board Exam paper was conducted on March 5, 2018 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. Most of the students shared that the CBSE board exam question paper for English was easy but a little lengthy. They also shared that some of the questions were repeated from previous years’ question paper.
Test Pattern & Marking Scheme
All sections asked in CBSE Class 12 Board Exam for English subject were compulsory. There was no overall choice in the question paper however internal choice was offered in some questions. Besides general instructions, separate instructions were provided in some sections and questions.
CBSE Class XII English Core which carried a total of 100 marks was divided into three sections.

Difficulty Level
All sections were compulsory with internal choice from Q No 4, similar to the previous year. The level, however, was comparatively easy. The question paper was lengthy because of which few students could not complete all the questions.
The overall layout of the questions remained the same, however in SET 3 the positioning of Q No 4 and 5 was interchanged. It was baffling for few, as generally Q 4 is of short composition and Q 5 is of long composition. Also, questions of the novel which are stationed as Q12 and Q 13 were shifted to Q 11 and 12 in SET 2 and Q10 and Q 11 in SET 3.
The questions and their form were same in all the Sets, only their positioning was changed. The question paper though was framed to cater to different levels of the students but failed to have at least one challenging question for students above average. Keeping in mind the significance of right usage of a language, CBSE should not go easy in giving marks liberally.
Tips to Score Well in the Exam
As for the students to maximise their marks it is important that they be in regular practice of Reading and Writing sections. While taking the exam they should stick to the given word-limit. Value-points and important words, phrases and quotes should be underlined. No answer should be left. If students are not sure then they should leave some space and come back to it later.
In writing section, formats must be followed as prescribed by CBSE. Long composition should be broken into paragraphs. In literature at least two value points must be covered in 3 marks and 6 marks question must have at least four value points. The paper should be attempted in legible handwriting.
