Charting my Path: From Commerce to PGDM, Tanvi Malik's Success Story

Choosing commerce as my stream in Class XII was a pivotal decision that set the course for my academic and professional journey. At the time, I was keenly interested in subjects that combined both logical reasoning and real-world applications. I was fascinated by how these subjects offered a window into the mechanics of businesses and economies. As I delved deeper into the syllabus, I realized that commerce would provide me with a solid foundation to understand the market, finance, and the ever-evolving business landscape.

With a strong inclination toward business studies, I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s in Commerce (Honours) from JIMS. JIMS was a strategic choice because of its reputation for quality education, experienced faculty, and a well-rounded curriculum. During my B.Com Honours, I appreciated how the course was structured to gradually transition students from foundational subjects to more complex, specialized ones. It was during these years that my understanding of subjects like accounting, finance, and business law solidified, sparking my interest in a future career within the business world.

PGDM at JIMS Kalkaji

With a solid foundation and newfound interest in marketing, I felt the next logical step was to pursue higher studies to gain more specialized knowledge. The decision to choose JIMS Kalkaji for my Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) was an easy one. JIMS Kalkaji is known for its industry-oriented approach and offers students an immersive learning experience. Its PGDM program, recognized for its relevance to contemporary business needs, seemed like the ideal choice to help me transition from theoretical learning to a professional mindset. JIMS Kalkaji’s emphasis on specialization within the PGDM program provided me with the opportunity to dive deeper into marketing. The course offered hands-on learning through case studies, internships, and interactions with industry professionals, making the curriculum highly practical and relevant to current industry demands.

A Defining Experience: The Summer Internship Program

One of the most impactful experiences at JIMS Kalkaji was the Summer Internship Program (SIP), where I was placed as a project coordinator. This internship was crucial in shaping my professional outlook and refining my career aspirations. Working as a project coordinator, I got a chance to understand the operational side of business consulting, project management, and client interactions. I was able to use the skills I had acquired in my PGDM courses, applying them in a real-world environment where the stakes were high. The experience helped me develop essential skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, which are critical in the business world. Beyond academics, I was actively involved in college activities like participating in guest lectures, seminars and other events. Each of these engagements contributed to my growth by allowing me to interact with professionals and fellow students, learn from their experiences, and broaden my network.

Reflecting on the Journey

Each decision, from selecting commerce in Class XII to pursuing a PGDM at JIMS Kalkaji, has been a carefully considered step toward my professional aspirations. The mentorship, academic rigor, and practical experiences I encountered along the way have not only prepared me for a career in marketing and management but also instilled the confidence to navigate the complexities of the corporate world.

Looking Ahead

My journey through commerce, B.Com Honours, and PGDM has been a process of exploration and growth. The foundation laid at JIMS, combined with the guidance of my mentors and the skills I’ve acquired, has prepared me to take on the challenges of the business world. As I step into the field of finance and marketing, I am eager to leverage this foundation to achieve success and make meaningful contributions.
