CMAT Preparation 2026: Cracking Language Comprehension

Any Language Comprehension test consists of four sub sections – Verbal Ability, Vocabulary, English Grammar and Reading Comprehension. To prepare for each of these, you need to apply a different strategy. Given below are important tips for preparation of Language Comprehension section of CMAT 2026:

  • To strengthen Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension, start early preparation. Read newspapers, books and novels of various genres every day for at least an hour.
  • Note down unfamiliar words, phrases and idioms that you come across while reading to check their meaning, context and usage.
  • Solve crosswords and word meaning related games in your free time. This will help you in building English vocabulary in an interesting way.
  • Vocabulary can be approached through etymology - understanding root meanings. For example, Knowing the meaning of a Latin word ‘loqui’ will enable one to understand words like eloquent, loquacious, soliloquy, ventriloquize, circumlocution, grandiloquent, magniloquent, etc.
  • Understand and memorise the usage of prefix and suffix. This will be immensely helpful in understanding usage of a lot of English words.
  • Study topics of Grammar individually to have clarity of concepts and their application. Practice sample questions after completing a topic to know how well you’ve understood the topic.
  • For a complete CMAT preparation 2026, practice mock test series and sample questions for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. The more Parajumble questions you solve the better you’ll get at it.
  • Parajumbles, Sentence Completion, Rearranging Sentence and Reading Comprehension questions can be solved accurately only if you have a good grip over the English language. You should be able to understand the hidden meanings and decipher the main argument.
  • In case of data driven RC passages, note down important points while reading. In case of abstract passages, break them and down and read in parts.
  • Meaning of the same word changes in different context. So, focus on the context and usage. There are similar sounding and similar meaning words too, in English. Practice questions based on these.
  • Notice words like ‘however’, ‘although’, ‘nevertheless’, ‘but’, ‘instead of’, etc. These can change the whole argument of a passage.
  • The RC passages in CMAT exam are usually from Literature, Art & Culture, Economy, Science, History, Philosophy, Sociology or Geography. Read on these topics and you’ll be able to handle the RC passage in CMAT 2026.
  • Lastly, practice, practice and practice more CMAT mock tests 2026. You’ll have to read, understand and answer question in limited time-frame. Practicing mock tests will help you master time management in exam.

A:

Candidates must take utmost care in selecting the cities as once the form is submitted, they can't change city preference. They should choose the first city of preference as their hometome or where they are residing as the exam authorities will strive to allot the test centres to candidates in their first city of preference.
