St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi is one of the most esteemed colleges in Jharkhand. The college is a religious minority educational institution but welcomes the admission of students from all categories. The college also has some contemporary and vocational courses with great faculty members that have kept the name of the college on the list of top educational institutions in Jharkhand. Not only does the college provides a plethora of courses but also all the necessary facilities to its students which makes it a NAAC A grading college for a long time now.
St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi provides a number of facilities to its students. These include well-maintained smart classrooms along with a proper laboratory and an age-old library. Besides all the amenities that are requisite for the proper functioning of an educational institution, the college provides accommodation facilities to its students who live far away or students coming from different states. The hostels are backed up by proper security guards, who are active 24*7. And since the hostel is inside the campus itself, students do not have to worry about any extra fares for travelling.

St. Xavier's College Hostel
St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi has three hostel blocks on campus and two outside campus- Manresa House and Seminary in St. Albert’s College Campus. Each block has a capacity of around 200 to 400 students. However, the number of seats and the number of beds in each hostel room may not be the same. Each block can accommodate one, two or four students. There are an equal number of tables and chairs as the number of beds. Besides, there is proper electricity and water facility provided to the students. Students have to share a common washroom, which nevertheless is properly cleaned and well maintained by the staff.
Food at the Hostel
Mess facility is provided to students availing hostel facility at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals both are available in the mess. The non-vegetarian meals are provided only three days a week, say the students.
Location of the Hostel
Three hostel blocks at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi are inside the campus itself at some distance. The hostels are surrounded by a college cafeteria, playgrounds, church and a gym. The college is located in the main city/ main market and hence any other requirements of the students can be easily fulfilled. The hostels outside the campus are located at Manresa House and Seminary in St. Albert’s College Campus.
Hostel Fee Structure
Accommodation charges at St. Xavier’s College are very minimal and hence affordable for the students. The charges are around INR 3K to 4K per month or say INR 36K to 48K annually. The rooms are cheap but the mess charges are expensive.
Criteria of Admission to the Hostel
The hostel facilities provided at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi till now are only for boys on the basis of categories. The male students from reserved categories, such as the SC/ ST/ OBC candidates, are only provided with accommodation facilities. And the registration for the same is at the discretion of college authorities. There is no race to occupy the hostel seats or no marks to categorise the seats. It is instead done on the recommendation by the Pope of St. Xavier’s Church, Ranchi.
Although the college does not provide any accommodation facilities for female students, it has made agreements with the neighbouring girls’ school- St. Anne’s, Ursuline- run by religious sisters to accommodate some of the girl students.
