PI Round at JIMS Vasant Kunj is more like an introductory session to understand student's area of interest, says Nidhi
I was a Humanities student in Class 11 and 12. The reason I chose Humanities was because of my interest in Social studies and History as subjects. Tourism and Hospitality have always been of my keen interests and so I decided to make a career ahead in the Hospitality industry. While looking for colleges offering degree programmes in Hospitality Management across Delhi NCR, I came to know about JIMS - Jagannath Institute of Management Sciences, Vasant Kunj. Among other colleges offering similar programmes, the reason for me choosing JIMS Vasant Kunj was positive alumni reviews and quality education. Hotel Management is all about professionalism and etiquette which will make you learn lessons for life.
The admission process at JIMS is quite simple. Candidates aspiring to admission need to undergo a written aptitude test followed by a panel interview round. Soon after the Class 12 exams, I appeared for UGAT exam conducted by AIMA. It's basically a standard Undergraduate Aptitude Test to screen the candidates for various undergraduate programmes among which Hotel Management is one. Because of this, I was exempted from the JET (JIMS Entrance Test) and was directly called for a Personal Interview round. Though there a lot of coaching institutes that prepare you for such entrance exams, but I chose to prepare for the exam on my own. There are a lot of sample test papers available on Google and practice tips. I prepared for the exam and was able to score quite good marks. And, the interview round at JIMS is not much of a concern. It's more like a basic introductory round wherein the panel members try to understand student’s areas of interest, aspirations and goals.
The time we spend in college is full of fun, awareness, experience, learning both physically and mentally. Teachers in their respective fields are successful and knowledgeable. There are courses in food processing, food and beverage supplies, bakery, housekeeping, front office, tourism, nutrition, French & communication skills. All courses are quite fascinating. The best part of all subjects is the practical part, which I love doing during the bakery sessions and the front office classes. There is a routine audit on Hygiene. Each student has the opportunity to share their opinions on various aspects of the various subjects we research. For us, there are special presentation courses where we frequently have to give presentations once or twice a week.
About extracurricular events, I am a member of the JIMS Rotaract Society, which is a community service organisation, and recently we have undertaken numerous projects such as mask and sanitizer delivery, food distribution and tree planting, and have successfully accomplished several projects in the past. We also partner with NGOs and other groups to join hands.
If given a chance, I would like to go abroad for higher studies to get trained on the international level. I would like to start a business of my own, and I would also like to fly around the world. There are a lot of things I want to do, and I believe I'll be able to do it.
My college experience so far, apart from gaining knowledge, has also given me an understanding of life that life is not as easy as we believe it is. We can do it all as long as we are focused.
