We prepare students to face the world with confidence, says Associate Professor, ABBS

In a conversation with Shiksha, Associate Professor at Acharya Bangalore B School (ABBS) Dr Syed Kazim talks about the holistic approach their institute has adopted to prepare students to face the world with confidence.

Q: What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?

A: MBA is an experiential learning programme. So, we focus on teaching students through various practical activities, such as Industrial visits, discussions, and interviews with entrepreneur and corporates executives. We also engage students in various skill development activities and competitions.

Q: How are you preparing your students to be Industry ready?

A: More than Industry ready, we are preparing the students to be ready to face the world with confidence. In this dynamic and changing situation, the future is uncertain. Keeping this in mind, we focus on holistic education. We train our students on various aspects such as creative thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Q: What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?

A: We look for qualities such as self-motivation, openness and eagerness to learn new things. MBA is a programme where one should not only learn from books but also learn from people around them. Thus, keeping this in mind, we need students who possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

Q: How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?

A: We are in regular touch with industry experts or top-level management and our own recruiters as well. We regularly take updates from them and try to identify the gaps to take necessary measures to bridge them.

Q: Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? How? Could you cite some examples of these?

A: We strongly believe in creativity and innovation. We conduct various activities and facilitate a platform to the students to explore their creativity and innovation. Our Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Incubation and Innovation Centre are active and successful in encouraging students to become entrepreneurs.
