In a conversation with faculty and experts from AIMS Institutes, Bangalore, Shiksha understands why a management degree a necessity in today’s market scenario is. The discussion also revolved around the admission and selection process at AIMS for students planning to pursue MBA from AIMS. Here is the edited excerpt of the conversation.
Q: Why do you think pursuing a management course has become a necessity in today’s time?
A: Management degree or diploma plays a pivotal role in landing up at premium designations making students’ career take off at a rocket speed, your promotions move up quickly in the queue. They will have the liberty to negotiate on their salary packages.
Q: What is the process and eligibility criteria for admission at AIMS?
A: The admission process at AIMS consists of five steps:
- Degree and entrance exam
- Register online
- Attend selection process
- Provisional admission
- Final admission
To be eligible for admissions, students must have a score of minimum 50 per cent in graduation from either the Karnataka Board or outside (45% for SC/ST/CAT-1). Additionally a score of 60 per cent is required in qualifying exams such as MA, CMAT, CAT, ATMA or XAT.
Q: What are the different components of the selection process?
A: The selection process comprises four rounds:
- Statement of Purpose
- Group Discussion
- Extempore
- Personal Interview
Q: What is the total fee for two year MBA programme? Is there any scholarship or loan assistance facility available to students?
A: The total fee for two-year programme is Rs 9.65 lakh except for the exam fee.
We do offer scholarships to students based on their merit scores, sports quota, siblings from same institute, SC/ST quota, differently abled, AIMS Alumni, economically-weaker section, One-time Financial Aid and Children of the Employees of Peenya Industrial area. The scholarship amount range from Rs 2,500 per semester to 20 per cent of overall MBA fee.
Students can also avail education loan from AVANSE (a DHFL Group Company).
Q: What are the different specialisations offered to management students? How do you help them students to choose among different specialisation?
A: The institute offers specialisations in the field of Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, Health Care Management, Banking Finance and Insurance, Startups and SME Management.
In the first two semesters, students will be exposed to all the specialisations and later we will help them decide which one suits them the best, based on their competencies. We have a psychometric test designed, which we run through during the end of second semester that helps students decide the best suitable specialisation for them.
Q: Can you share some placement insights?
A: Placements here look promising with the highest annual package till date being Rs 22 lakh, average package being Rs 6 lakh and the lowest at Rs 4 lakh. We do get companies prominently in marketing, finance and HR. Top recruiters across industries such as Finance, Manufacturing, Insurance, IT, Logistics, FMCG, Hospitality, Media, Pharma , Telecom and Airlines participate actively in the placements season.
