They are mainly entrance-oriented and have a lot of extra details and questions that are not required for the board exams. To get maximum marks in the board exams, the students should concentrate on the basics and stick strictly to the syllabus. Even the choice based questions come from a single unit. So, the students have to be thorough with their preparation.

Time is of the essence in the exams, so make the diagrams as relevant as possible and move to the next question. This can only be achieved with regular practice.
- Previous years’ question papers and sample papers: To understand the type and pattern of the questions that mostly come in the exams, students need to solve as many sample papers as possible. The previous years’ question papers also provide a sense of which questions are repeated over the years.
- Revision is crucial: The students must spend the last few days before the board exams in revisions only. By regular and frequent revisions, the important points can be retained and effectively applied while writing the exams. Hence, every student must revise the diagrams and chapters properly during the preparation. It is also important to give additional attention to difficult topics.
- Write answers effectively: The diagrams are a vital part of each question, and in Botany and Zoology, it is preferred that answers are supplemented with a corresponding diagram. The diagrams must always be drawn with a sharp pencil and labelling must be done only at the right-hand side of the diagram. This will help in scoring marks in the board exams. The new sections must always be started from a new page. Also, the long question answers must always be supplemented with multiple diagrams, if possible.
- Presentation of the answers: The answers in subjects like Botany and Zoology must be defined with the correct terms and definitions. While writing the answers in their own words, the students should ensure that the meaning of the answer is not changed. The answers should be precise. The essential terms can be underlined or highlighted. Also, the answers must be written under headings and sub-headings, if required, and have a streamlined flow to them.
- Stick to the timetable prepared: Make a timetable and adhere to it stringently to complete the syllabus on time. The timetable must be made in such a way that all units are covered on a rotational basis and there is not much gap between the revisions of each unit.
- Avoid distractions: Do not give in to the peer pressure and distractions during the preparation. Social media and other means of entertainment must be limited, and maximum time must be allotted to studies only. Any time wasted can cost valuable marks in the board exams.
- Keep calm: The students must not compare their progress during the preparation with others. During the exams, read the question carefully and answer each question with the utmost attention. Also, stay calm and focussed during the exam.
