The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), in an official notification dated April 14, has announced the postponement of all the theory and practical examinations till further orders due to the coronavirus outbreak in the nation. "All examinations across India and Overseas stand postponed till further orders," read the official notification. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2020, announced the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3, 2020.

NIOS had earlier said that the revised schedule for NIOS Class 10 and NIOS Class 12 will be notified separately after assessing the situation in the country. NIOS has further asked all the learners to remain in touch with the NIOS website for the updates.

Earlier, NIOS Chairman BS Sharma, in a tweet, said that NIOS will be releasing the revised schedule at least 7 days in advance.

He also said that NIOS which was scheduled to start its annual examination from March 24, is in close coordination with the CBSE. "We'll decide on new dates to conduct annual exams once CBSE releases its new schedule. This will be done once the Board checks the availability of schools to use them as exam centres," he further said.
On March 19, NIOS had released a notification stating that all the examinations (theory and practical) scheduled between March 19 and March 31 stand cancelled after the Ministry of Human Resource Development had directed all the Boards including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), NIOS to postpone all their ongoing examinations in the wake of COVID-19. 
Meanwhile, Delhi Cheif Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia has announced that all the students from class nursery to class 8 will be promoted to the next class, while online classes will also be organised by the teachers for students studying in Class 12 who will be appearing for their board examinations next year.
As many as 1,161 cases have been confirmed in India, as per the data on March 30, 6 pm.
