The family income limit is INR 8 lakh a year. The form is filled online on a partner portal. The window for the current session has been extended till September 30. The scholarship covers institutes such as IIT Delhi, NIT Tiruchirappalli and IIT Madras.

What is the Bharti Airtel Scholarship?

The Bharti Airtel Foundation started this scholarship in 2024. The aim is simple. Bright students should not lose a good engineering seat over money. It is a merit-cum-means scholarship. So both marks and family income matter. Girl students are given special focus. In the first year, 276 students were selected. In the next cycle, the number rose to 500.

Academic Eligibility

The student must have confirmed admission in the first year. The course must be undergraduate engineering or a 5 year integrated course. Students already in the second year cannot apply. Diploma and certificate courses are not covered.

Eligible Courses Under the Bharti Airtel Scholarship

Only technology based branches are allowed. These are Electronics and Communication, Telecom, Information Technology and Computer Science. Data Science and Aerospace are also covered. New-age branches count as well. These include Artificial Intelligence, IoT, AR/VR, Machine Learning and Robotics.

Eligible Colleges for the Bharti Airtel Scholarship

The institute must be in the top 50 of the NIRF engineering ranking. The latest published list is used. This covers the IITs and many other well-known institutes. Students of BITS Pilani, Anna University and Jadavpur University can check the current rank of their institute first.

Income Limit for the Bharti Airtel Scholarship

The annual family income must not cross INR 8 lakh. Income from all sources is counted together. This includes salary, business and any other earning.

Nationality and Other Conditions

The student must be a citizen of India. The student must also live in India. One more rule applies here. A student already taking another scholarship for the same fee from the same foundation cannot apply.

Preference Categories

Annual Fee Coverage

The scholarship pays 100 per cent of the annual fee. The amount follows the fee structure of the student's own institute. Support runs for the full course, up to 5 years. The student must meet the renewal rules each year.

Hostel and Mess Support

Hostel and mess charges are paid to students who ask for them. Some students stay in a paying guest room or a private hostel. In that case, two figures are compared. One is the institute's hostel and mess rate. The other is the actual charge. The lower of the two is paid. Hostel life is common at NIT Warangal, Manipal Institute of Technology and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Laptop for Bharti Scholars

Every selected student gets a laptop in the first year. It is given only once. The student has to keep it safe. A lost or damaged laptop is not replaced.

Expenses Not Covered

Some charges stay with the student. These include the counselling fee, library fee and refundable security deposit. The internet fee, breakage, laundry and damage recovery charges are also left out. Any other mid-year demand from the institute is paid by the student.

The money does not always reach the student's own account.

Payment to the Institute

The fee, hostel charge and mess charge usually go straight to the college. The payment follows the fee structure uploaded in the form. The route can change from case to case. The amount may go to the student's bank account, to the institute, or to the hostel and mess.

Reimbursement Through DBT

Sometimes the college fee deadline comes first. The student then pays the fee on their own. The fee receipt is checked after that. The amount is then returned through Direct Benefit Transfer. Admission and Academic Documents

• Government photo identity proof, such as a Voter ID, PAN card or driving licence

• Current year admission proof, such as an admission letter or a fee letter

• Class 12 marksheet

A provisional seat allotment letter works at the application stage. An offer letter, allotment letter or waitlist letter is also fine. A bonafide certificate or an official fee receipt is accepted too. The final seat confirmation letter is asked for later, at the time of joining.

The income papers depend on the work the parent does.

• If the parent is salaried or self-employed: the complete income tax return form

• If the parent has no taxable income: a government income certificate

• In both cases: a bank statement of the last 6 months

The acknowledgement slip of the income tax return is not accepted. The full form is needed.

Registration on the Application Portal

Start with the login step.

• Open the scholarship page and click the apply button.

• Log in with your registered ID. New users can register with an email ID, a mobile number or a Gmail account.

Filling the Application Form

The form opens once the login is done.

• You will reach the application form page of the scholarship.

• Click the start button to open the form.

• Fill in your personal details, academic records, family income and institute details.

Uploading Documents and Final Submission

This is the last stage of the form.

• Upload each document. Blurred files are a common reason for delay.

Shortlisting

The form itself has many steps. The student gives personal and academic details. Income proof, references and admission proof are also asked for. A Statement of Purpose has to be added. Forms are then shortlisted against the eligibility rules.

Verification and Interview

Shortlisted students go through document checks. An audio or video interview follows. A visit to the student's home is also part of the process. Final selection comes after all these checks.

Bharti Airtel Scholarship Renewal Criteria

The scholarship is not renewed on its own each year.

Academic and Attendance Conditions

These four conditions have to be met every year.

• Proof that the course is on and the student is promoted

• At least 6 CGPA in the previous year, or the matching grade

• At least 75 per cent attendance, certified by the institute

• A letter from the institute showing no disciplinary action

Institutes are expected to share records of marks, attendance and conduct. An institute may later fall out of the top 50 list. Current scholars are not affected by that.

Backlog and CGPA Rules

A student with 6 CGPA and a backlog still keeps the scholarship. It stops only if the student fails or is not promoted. It also stops if the CGPA drops below 6. In the third, fifth and seventh semesters, the result may be late. The fee, hostel charge and mess charge are still paid. Support continues once the CGPA is sent and found in order. The scholarship is withdrawn if the renewal rules are not met.

What Bharti Scholars Are Expected to Give Back

This scholarship asks for something in return, but not money. A Bharti Scholar first graduates and starts working. After that, the scholar supports the education of at least one student. It is a voluntary promise for life. Scholars are also asked to plant at least five trees every year. They are expected to care for those trees while the scholarship runs.
