What is the Nabanna Scholarship

Nabanna Scholarship is a financial aid scheme of the West Bengal government. It helps students from low income families keep studying. Support is given after Madhyamik, after Higher Secondary and after graduation. The money comes from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund.

One rule makes this scheme different from others. It is not meant for students with very high marks. Students who score 60 per cent and above are usually asked to apply for the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship instead. The Nabanna Scholarship is meant for students who score just below that level. If you are not sure whether your course is covered, ask your college office. Students at Jadavpur University, Presidency University and the University of Burdwan can check this in a single visit.

Nabanna Scholarship Amount and Benefits

The Nabanna Scholarship amount is around INR 10,000. This figure is widely reported for the scheme. The official portal does not print a fixed rate chart for education assistance. So check cmrf.wb.gov.in for the current sanctioned amount before you apply.

The money goes straight to the student’s own savings bank account. It can be used for tuition fees, admission charges, books and exam costs. The help is sanctioned from a relief fund. It is not a fixed rate scholarship. So the sum can change from case to case. Students at University of Calcutta, Rabindra Bharati University and the University of Kalyani should keep their admission receipt ready. The sanction is tied to your current year of study.

  • Family income certificate from a competent authority such as a DM, SDO, BDO, Joint BDO or an officer of equal rank

The second is the 365 day rule. You can register only once in a year. So if you face a problem, do not register a second time in a hurry. Correct the form you have already started.
