Rhodes Scholarship 2027 Latest Updates

Here is the latest status of the India cycle. Applications for the 2027 cycle closed on July 23, 2026. Students on the first list will be called for first-round interviews in September or October 2026. Final interviews and a social event will be held in person in November 2026. All applicants will get their result by email by December 2026. Dates for the next cycle are not out yet.

What is Rhodes Scholarship

The scholarship began in 1902. It is a talent-based award for full-time postgraduate study at Oxford. The Rhodes Trust gives over 100 scholarships each year. Seats are divided by country or region. Indian applicants must meet all the rules below to apply.

Citizenship Requirement

The first rule is about nationality. Applicants must be citizens of India. They need an Indian passport or other proof of citizenship, such as a Voter ID. OCI and PIO card holders cannot apply under the India category. Refugees living in India can also be considered.

Education in India Requirement

The second rule checks how long you studied in India. You need at least four of the last ten years of study in India. The Trust counts school sessions, not January to December years. One more condition must also be true. You should have passed the 10th Class or 12th Class exam at a school in India. Or you should be in the final year of, or have finished, a degree at an Indian university. Final-year students at IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur can apply if they meet the other rules. Graduates of University of Delhi, University of Mumbai and University of Calcutta can apply too.

Students who studied their degree outside India can still apply. But they get just one of the five places. They share it with students who have strong links to more than one Rhodes region.

Academic and English Language Requirements

Strong marks matter a lot for this award. You must finish your undergraduate degree by July of the year you join Oxford. Your grades must at least meet the entry rules of your Oxford course. A First Class degree improves your chance of an Oxford seat. It is not a fixed minimum, though. Students at National Law School of India University, NALSAR and NLU Delhi should check Oxford law rules early. If English is not your first language, you must meet Oxford's higher English level.

3. Create an account and fill in your personal and education details.

4. Complete the CV section of the form.

5. Add the names and email IDs of four referees, who will write letters about you.

6. Upload your documents, personal statement and academic statement.

7. Check every detail and submit the form before the deadline.

There is no application fee. Final-year students at IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur and IISc Bengaluru should start early, as referees need time.

• Official university transcript (mark record) with grades so far

• 10th Class and 12th Class marksheets

• Proof of four years of study in India, only if your degree is not from India

• A colour photo of your face and shoulders in JPG format

All documents must be in English. If a document is in another language, add an official English translation. Students at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia and University of Hyderabad should ask for transcripts early.

Reference Letters

Four referees must send their letters online.

One academic referee can be the teacher who guided your research project. You should have worked with them for at least three months. Friends and relatives should not usually be referees. A teacher from Jadavpur University, Presidency University or Anna University can be an academic referee.

Personal Statement and Academic Statement

Both statements must be written by you.

Your personal statement should read as one essay. The Trust allows AI only for small help, like grammar checks. The main ideas and voice must be your own.

Rhodes Scholarship Selection Process

Selection happens in stages after the deadline.

No one is selected without an interview. Finalists get a travel allowance within India for the final round. After selection, students must apply to Oxford for their course. The award is confirmed only after Oxford gives admission. Students who are not selected are not told the reasons.
