As a Higher Education institution, Cotton College has gone through several milestones from the initial phase of being under Calcutta University to the present when it is one of the full-fledged autonomous state universities of Assam. It is a Public State University established in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the Chief Commissioner of the erstwhile British province of Assam.
It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act enacted by Assam Legislative Assembly to merge the Cotton College State University and Cotton College.
Cotton University offers various UG, PG and PhD courses, such as BSc, BA, BCA, MCA, MSC and MA. Admission to all the courses is entrance-based. The university accepts CUR-UG for admission to UG courses and conducts a university-based entrance exam i.e. CPGEE for admission to PG courses. Applicants seeking admission to any of these courses must appear in the entrance exam and score well to grab the final seat.
Candidates who complete the Cotton University admission process are eligible to pay the course fee. Students can opt for both offline and online mode of payment. The tuition fee for Cotton University courses ranges from INR 3.6K- 1.33 Lacs based on the course selected by the students. The University offers respective courses for duration varying from 2 years to 4 years.
As per the recent Cotton University placement stats, the median package offered during UG 3-year and PG 2-year placements 2023 stood at INR 5.15 LPA and INR 3.89 LPA, respectively. Whereas, 13 UG and 95 PG students were placed during Cotton University Placements 2022. The University has not yet released the highest package figure. The same will be reflected here once out.
Cotton University offers UG, PG, and Doctoral programmes specialised in Science, Arts, and Computer Application. Cotton University conducted an online mode of application via SamartheGov. Admission to these courses is done based on various entrance exams, such as CUET and CPGEE for admission to UG and PG courses, respectively.
