M.Sc in Life Sciences - Batch of 2024

Overall, it is the best college for the M.Sc. in Life Sciences course.
Placements: Placements in our course were average. Almost 60 percent of pupils obtained jobs in international corporations. The average wage was 16 LPA. The maximum package offered was 21 LPA. The course also included vocational training. The top recruitment firms included Reliance Life Sciences, Bharat Biotech, and IQVIA. The most popular job titles were biochemist, biomedical scientist, and others.
Infrastructure: The college provided Wi-Fi in the hostels, but we had to fill out a form and ensure availability to get access. Classrooms were fully air-conditioned, but the hostels were not. Every hostel had a special menu. The mess food was fine. There were also three restaurants on campus.
Faculty: Teachers were highly competent and helpful. Every faculty member helped students in every circumstance. The exams for the semester were not particularly pleasant. Students who dedicated a lot of time to their studies were likely to perform well on the exams. 50 percent of students were successful. Appropriate instruction prepared students for the workforce.

Good experience. All faculty members and facilities are good.
Placements: Colleges, like other institutes, expect students to intern during summer vacation. However, students are expected to seek internships on their own; the internship duration is 45 days. The psychology department does not have a highly functional placement cell; however for other courses, the college offers a variety of companies for placement. EY, PG, KPMG, the Premia Academy, and Career Quest pick up students through campus placement. From the beginning, I was passionate about teaching so I joined school as a counselor. The median salary package for the MNC company is 4.8 LPA.
Infrastructure: The campus is small; people are more and there is less space but a lot of trees and plants. The canteen is not good; a huge crowd is there and for office work, it needs a separate boy line; they are mixed with girls. The campus library consists of both an e-book library and a house library. There is also a digital computer room that we can access and research online. Hostel room shared by 5 people with 3 times of food; accommodation charges are high. The menu is based on Karnataka food and it is run under the guidance of the convent sister .
Faculty: Faculty members are brilliant; the psychology department has exceptionally good faculty but is not punctual; the teaching is more interactive, with a master and a Ph.D.-qualified professor and an assistant professor for teaching. The course curriculum is up-to-date according to UGC norms, and the and the exam structure changes every year. There are two internals for each subject: assignment, submission, practical work, even mock practical and finally the examination. Internals have 40% and end-terms have 60%. Our university is autonomous so all work is internal.
Other: Mount Carmel also brings your best, whether it is dance, music, fashion, or theater. Many big names like Anushka Shetty, Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone are our alumni .

College facilities and faculty were amazing.
Placements: 40-60% of students were placed in our course. 23 LPA was the highest, 3LPA was the lowest, and 6 LPA was the average package offered in this course. Top recruiting companies for the course were Biotin, Serum Institute, Genetic, etc. 80% of students got an internship from my course. Top roles offered were research associate, lab technician, etc.
Infrastructure: Hostel, canteen, labs, library, sports complex, etc. Facilities were available for this course. The labs of the college had all the materials required for practicals. The college has its own library on the campus. The college also offered a hostel to the students which was located near the college. Food at both the hostel mess and college canteen was good to eat.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers were helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable at my college. The teaching quality was great in our course. This course curriculum was relevant, and it makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams were difficult to pass, and the pass percentage was 33%.

Biotechnology from the Mount Carmel.
Placements: At our college, there was a special cell for placements. This placement cell works hard, and about 60% of students get campus placements every year. The highest package offered in our batch was 15 LPA, and the lowest offered package was 4 LPA. The average package offered was 5 LPA. Around 80% of students get on-campus internships.
Infrastructure: The facilities offered and the infrastructure of the college were great. The college management provided all kinds of facilities to its students. The college has a canteen on its campus that provides good-quality food. The college also offers hostel facilities to its students. The college also has pretty good facilities.
Faculty: Teachers at our college had great knowledge in their respective fields of study. Most of them were experienced in the field of teaching and were qualified. Teachers at the college were supportive of the students. Various industry visits were conducted by the professors for practical knowledge.

I am dissatisfied as there are no core placement and internship opportunities for life science.
Placements: Placements in our college are nil. Not even a single company related to biotechnology or life science visited our campus for placements. Even if they visit, they are not related to our field. Before admission, they assure 100% placements, but it's not even 10% of what they promised. Undoubtedly, the education provided is good.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facility is good. Labs and classrooms are okay. The library is very good, but the availability of books for the majority of students is poor. Sports facilities are good. Quality of food is manageable. In labs, all the equipment is not available. In fact, we struggled to find a matchbox.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very good. They are very knowledgeable. The teaching quality is good. The student to faculty ratio is fine. Industrial visits are not conducted, and so no industry exposure is provided. The course curriculum is very useful but only from the theoretical point of view, and not from the application point of view. Some of the teachers play politics, which affects the students.

Review of Mount Carmel College.
Placements: My stream was M.Sc. biotechnology which didn't have any decent placements. The commerce stream is given more importance. Placements are not given much importance to in our stream. It needs to be taken more seriously. It has been the same for previous batches.
Infrastructure: The college is pretty decent. However, labs need more maintenance. There are no dedicated classrooms. We need to hop around from one building to another, and it is really difficult. The lab assistant knows nothing about the whereabouts of things in the lab. It is not a good thing.
Faculty: Faculty members here are good. My stream had a few great teachers. However, some were really bad. I wish the course curriculum was more of a higher standard because we all felt that we had a better curriculum in B.Sc. Though teachers are qualified, some of them lack teaching skills.
