The NID syllabus for that Prelims will include questions from topics like Drawing fundamentals, Innovation in design, Theme development, Exercises on imagination, Graphics & pictograms, Principles of composition, Design theory, etc. The syllabus for NID that Mains will include topics like Model making, Material manipulation, Audio-visual exercises, Importance of body language, Doodling, Creative thinking and the likes. Candidates may note that the National Institute of Design doesn't release any official syllabus. The important topics for the exam are identified by consulting previous years' question papers. The NID DAT 2026 (Prelims) exam will be conducted on December 21, 2025.As per the official pattern, the DAT Prelims exam wil be conducted offline and will be of 3 hours duration. The test will be conducted in English language and include a maximum of 26 questions. The question paper will include both subjective and objective-type questions. The paper will be for 100 marks. Candidate who qualify in DAT Prelims have to next appear in DAT Mains.The candidate needs to consult the exam pattern along with the syllabus to prepare for the NID that exam. Note that the National Institute of Design also has the authority to make changes to the exam pattern.

NID cutoff is the minimum score that candidates need to obtain in order to be considered for admissions to a design course. The participating institutes of NIDs offer B. Des and M.Des courses. The cut-off would be released category-wise for each of these programs. Also, the cut-off would be released separately for all the coaching institutes. Only such candidates who meet the cut-off criteria would be considered for admission.

Yes. In case, you are not satisfied with the allocated seat or have a better option available, you are allowed to participate in the other rounds of counselling. In case the candidate wants to participate in the subsequent rounds of counselling, then he or she has to opt for auto upgrade. Note that if the candidate is allocated a higher preference seat in the subsequent round, then seat allocation of the previous round will be cancelled. The allotment of seats will be as per the merit rank of the candidate in NID that 2023. The National Institute of Design will release the detailed instructions for counseling at the time of declaration of NID that 2023 results.

The counseling for NID DAT 2024 is conducted separately for the B. Des and M.Des programs.The choice filling (selection of campuses) for the B. Des programme was conducted from May 21-23, 2024 (4 pm). This was followed by allotment of seats on May 29-31, 2024.In case of the M.Des programme, there was no option to select campuses. Candidates were directly allocated seats between April 30 and May 14, 2024. Candidates who were allotted seats had to pay the seat confirmation fee and upload essential documents to complete admission formalities.

A. The counseling fee for NID that is the same for all categories. Gen, Gen EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD candidates participating in NID counseling have to pay INR 30,000. However, Overseas candidates have to pay a counselling fee is INR 75,000. The fee can be paid via online mode only and is excluding the continence fee. The token fees for the B. Des programme has to be paid from May 25-26, 2023. Meanwhile, the counselling fees for the M.Des programme have to be paid from May 16-19, 2023.

If the fee payment window is closed by the institute, you are not eligible to participate in the admission process. Your seat will now be allocated to the next qualifying candidate in the order of merit. For the B. Des programme, the token fees have to be paid from May 25-26, 2023. Meanwhile, for the M.Des programme, the fees have to be paid between May 16 & 19, 2023. The provisional seat allotment letters for candidates who have paid the fees will be available in the 1st week of June 2023.
