As per the D Y Patil School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics admission policy, the BSc qualification requires candidates to be either 17 years of age or attain the age at the time of admission. Further, the students must have passed twelve years of school education with equivalent examination from a recognised board, with minimum 50% aggregate of all subjects. Physics, Chemistry and English are compulsory and the student should have cleared either Mathematics / Biology in class 12 examinations leading to an aggregate of 50% as mentioned above.

As per the DY Patil School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics BSc course curriculum, the course provides students with flexibility to enter or exit academic programme at various stages. The BSc course is offered as an honors degree in Biotechnology & Bioinformatics and honors degree with research in Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. The programme lasts for four years and comes with an exit option. After completing two semesters, candidates can exit the course with a Certificate (42 credits +4 credits Internship/Apprenticeship). Candidates can exit with a Diploma degree (82 credits +4 credits Internship/Apprenticeship) after they completes the third and fourth semesters. Further, after the sixth semesters students can exit with the BSc degree (122 credits).
