JEE Advanced 2014: How is merit list determined?

JEE Advanced 2014 exam results got declared today on the official website. You can click here to check your results.

The common merit list that is prepared is based on the candidate’s performance in the exam.Please remember that only those aspirants, who have taken both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for ranking.

As far as the marking system is concerned,  the marks secured by a candidate in Physics will be equal to the marks he/she secures in Physics part of Paper 1 plus marks in Physics part of Paper 2. The same procedure is followed for Chemistry and Mathematics too. Thus, the sum of the marks obtained in individual subjects in JEE Advanced 2014 will be the aggregate marks for the aspirant.

Coming back to the merit list, aspirants must have scored at least 10% in each subject and 35% in aggregate in order to be in the common merit list(CML). Separate lists will be prepared for the prepared for general, OBC (NCL), SC and ST category students.

Students from OBC (NCL) category should have scored at least 9% in each subject and 31.5% in aggregate in order to be in the OBC (NCL) merit list. However, students from the SC and ST categories must score at least 5% in each subject and 17.5% in aggregate in order to be in their respective merit lists.

Merit lists for PwD candidates:

Separate merit lists will be prepared for PwD candidates who further belong to the GE, OBC (NCL), SC and ST categories. To be in these merit lists, candidates must score at least 5% in each subject and 17.5% in aggregate.

Merit lists for preparatory course:

Separate merit lists will be prepared for preparatory courses only if the number of SC/ST/PwD candidates in the respective merit lists is less than 1.4 times the number of seats available in the respective categories. To be in these merit lists, candidates must  score at least 2.5% in each subject and 8.75% in aggregate.

If a candidate qualifies in more than one category under relaxed norms, then he/she for  the purpose of ranking shall be considered in all the categories in which he/she belongs. There will be no separate waiting list for candidates.

Tie-break:

In case if there is a tie break with regard to the aspirants who have scored the same aggregate marks, the following steps will be adopted:

  • Higher rank will be assigned for higher marks in Mathematics, followed by marks in Physics and Chemistry.
  • Candidates securing same marks in all these three subjects will be assigned the same rank

Please note that securing a rank in JEE Advanced 2014 will not guarantee admission to any of the courses available at IITs, and ISM Dhanbad.

The JEE Advanced 2014 website for online filling of course preference in IITs (Indian Institute of technology) and ISM (Indian School of Mines) would become live from tomorrow, June 20, 2014 onwards. However, candidates need to fill these online course selection forms latest by June 24, 2014.
