JEE Advanced 2014: Topper Govind Lahoti’s goal is to be a software engineer
Becoming a software engineer was a childhood dream for Govind Lahoti, JEE Advanced 2014 topper who secured an AIR(All India Rank) 3. A native of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, this young lad loves reading books and playing chess & video games in his free time.
Emerging as one of the toppers wasn’t really a surprise for Lahoti as he already had high of achieving this success. “ I feel great. Extremely great. I expected to be one of the ten toppers but I emerged as the third topper” said an ecstatic Lahoti.
In an exclusive chat with shiksha.com, this JEE Advanced 2014 third topper talks all about his sucees, achievements and preparation strategy so far.
Q. Congrats on your success. So, how do you feel being the third topper of JEE Advanced 2014?
A. I feel really great. I, definitely, expected to be one of the ten toppers but, surprisingly, I emerged as the third topper.
Q. How long have you been preparing? And what was your study plan like for JEE Advanced 2014?
I have been preparing since Class 10th. As for my preparation strategy is concerned, I tried studying 8-10 hours every day.
Q. What was your score in JEE Advanced, JEE Mains and XII Boards?
My score was :
JEE Main 2014: 340/360
JEE Advanced 2014: 322/360
XII Boards : 96%
Q. Which IIT are you aiming at and which stream do you wish to pursue?
I am aiming to get into IIT(Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay and pursue by Bachelors in Computer Science. Even before I started preparing for JEE, I had this idea in mind and always dreamt of becoming a good software engineer and this is the way to it.
Q. Which board are you from? How different was its syllabus from JEE Advanced?
I am a CBSE board student and the syllabus for both – JEE Advanced and CBSE 12th board was similar. However, the way to prepare for it was different because of the difficulty level of both the exams. One was an objective test, while the other was a subjective test.
Q. Which other exams have you taken?
Well, I have qualified for NTSE, KVPY, RMO, IPHO, ICHO etc.
Q. Any tips for aspirants who would be taking the exam next year?
Hard-work and consistency are the two things that can take you up to this stage. However, I feel you that one should enjoy the subject while preparing and should not treat it as a burden. They shouldn’t take it as a stress. If you enjoy your studies, you would definitely want to study more.
Besides this, they should plan their studies make an everyday schedule, and implement the same without fail.
Q. So, tell us something about your family.
I am the youngest in the family. My dad has retired from his job and my mom is a housewife. I have an elder brother who is pursuing M.Tech from IIT Bombay.
