JEE Main 2014 Rank Predictor: How to calculate ranks and scores

The marks scored by candidates in JEE Main 2014 will be declared by May 3, 2014. This score will contain the actual marks scored by the candidate in Paper-1 of JEE Main 2014 along with the status of whether the candidate has qualified for the JEE Advanced 2014, by fulfilling the required eligibility criteria.

The final rank list confirming the names and roll numbers of candidates who have secured admissions in B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning courses at institutes other than the IITs will be declared on July 7, 2014.

The JEE Main 2014 rank card includes the candidate’s all India rank (AIR), state rank as well as category. However, only the AIR is used for admissions to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Other institutes through central counselling board. All the other ranks are mentioned for informational purpose only.

How to calculate JEE Main 2014 scores

JEE Main 2014 consists of four sets of questions paper, that is, Code-E, Code-F, Code-G and Code-H. Each set consists of 90 questions. The marks that can be scored are equal across all sections. All questions in the exam paper have the same weightage.

For every correct answer candidates will be awarded with four marks. However, one mark would be deducted for every incorrect answer. The final score is a cumulative value of the marks scored for every correct answer and marks deducted for every wrong answer.

How to calculate JEE Main 2014 rank

The rank of a candidate will be determined on the basis of his/her score in JEE Main-2014 and normalised score in class 12th or equivalent qualifying exam. While calculating JEE Main ranks 60% weightage would be given to JEE Main score whereas 40% weightage would be given to normalised marks in class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination.

However, if two or more candidates have the same marks/rank then the criteria on the basis of which ranks for such candidates will be determined are:

For admission to B.E/B.Tech (other than IITs)

The criteria on the basis of which ranks would be determined for candidates with the same score/rank is:

• Mathematics marks: The candidate who has scored higher marks in JEE Mains 2014 maths section would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Physics marks: The candidate who has scored higher marks in JEE Mains 2014 physics section would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Total normalised qualifying exam marks: The candidate who has obtained higher normalised marks would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Ratio of positive marks and negative marks: The candidate who has higher absolute value of the ratio would be considered to have a higher rank.

However, even after taking all these criterions in consideration, if the candidates have the same score then the candidates would be considered to be on the same rank.

Admission to B.Arch/B.Planning (in institutes other than IITs)

The criteria on the basis on which ranks would be determined for candidates with the same score/rank is:

• Aptitude Test in Paper-2: The candidate who has managed to score higher marks in B. Arch /B. Planning aptitude test in JEE Main 2014 paper-2 would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Drawing Test in Paper-2: The candidate who has managed to score higher marks in B. Arch /B. Planning drawing test in JEE Main 2014 paper-2 would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Normalised qualifying exam marks: The candidate who has managed to obtain higher normalised marks would be considered to have a higher rank.
• Ratio of positive marks and negative marks: The candidate who has higher absolute value of the ratio would be considered to have a higher rank.

However, even after taking all these criterions in consideration, if the candidates have the same score then the candidates would be considered to be on the same rank.

A point to be noted here is that from this year onwards no score/rank card will be dispatched to candidates and they would have to download their final result cards from the official website of JEE Main 2014.

Also, all participating institutes which do not use the centralised counselling procedures will be preparing their own individual rank list on the basis of a candidate’s performance in JEE Main 2014 and other criteria as decided by them.
