The official notice showing the opening and closing ranks of third round of counselling states that a few students have not been allotted seats despite having better ranks than the closing rank. The reason for not having been allotted a seat in JoSAA 2015 third round can be any of the following:
1. The allotted seat in round one to the candidate was cancelled due the following:
• Category (OBC, SC or ST) changed to GEN
• Gender entry changed from Male to Female
• PwD status changed from Yes to No
• Change in the State Code of Eligibility
2. The candidate chose to exercise the Slide or Freeze option while accepting the allocated seat in Round one and/or changed willingness option in second round of seat allotment.
3. The candidate was not meeting the eligibility criteria (for example: due to colour blindness, one-eyed vision, etc.) for the chosen courses at the time of accepting the allotted seat in round one or round two.
However, JoSAA has already released the opening and closing ranks for round first and second on July 7 and July 13, 2015 respectively.
Candidates can check the first and second round opening and closing ranks here.
General and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates have to pay a sum of Rs 45,000 as the seat acceptance fee, while SC/ST/PwD candidates have to pay Rs 20,000 for the same. IITs and ISM Dhanbad’s seat allotment process is over with the end of third round of the counselling process. Preparatory course will be conducted at IITs and ISM on July 22. The academic session for 2015-19 will begin from July 22, 2015.
By the time the third round of counselling began, aspirants appearing in third round had an option to grab only from the remaining 82 seats at IITs. A total of 10,006 seats by all 18 IITs were available for admissions of which more than 99% seats were filled after the second round of counselling. Of these 80 vacant seats, maximum number of vacant seats are available in ISM Dhanbad and IIT Kharagpur, that is, 32 seats and 13 respectively, one seat at IIT Delhi, two at IIT Kanpur and six at IIT Chennai. It has been also seen that all 903 seats available at IIT Bombay were filled up in second round.
Around 1.52 lakh candidates have registered for the JEE Main 2015 counselling with 1.29 crore choices filled this year. In the first seat allotment process, 33,989 candidates were allotted seats in 18 GFTIs, 18 IIITs, 18 IITs, ISM and 31 NITs. However, only 26,597 candidates have accepted the seats allotted to them by JoSAA. Due to this, there were 7,383 vacant seats after the closure of the first round of the seat allotment process.
