Know why this IIT student says that getting admission in an IIT was never on the bucket list. It just happened by accident. Read more on shiksha.

Personally, I really didn't want to opt for Science stream. I would have rather opted for Humanities but my parents were absolutely against that. I liked Math, in fact, I still do. However, Science was not at all my thing. My dad being a faculty at a leading coaching institute wanted me to get into IIT. And even my mom wanted me to choose mainstream subjects – medical or engineering. Science was the stream that everyone – not just my parents but even my teachers, grandparents, relatives and friends – expected me to choose. Again, I didn't exactly have a say in the college or the course that I am currently studying. Getting admission in an IIT was something my parents dreamt of (but certainly this is not the place where I would have liked to be). So, they chose whatever course they thought was the best amongst the available ones. I don't exactly mind this course but it is definitely not my jam. It's not something that makes me want to get out of my bed every day and work day and night for. Basically, this field is not the area where my core genius lies.

How I cracked JEE Advanced

Getting admission in an IIT was never on my bucket list. It just happened by accident. A fatal accident, I believe.

I didn't join any coaching institutes or anything. My dad taught me Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in class XIth and for some time in XIIth as well. The rest I covered from various books and video lectures on the internet. I was on a gap year as well because I didn't qualify the JEE Advanced level in the first go. I had started my preparation in class XIth with a lot of reluctance. When I had given the JEE Mains exam it was with the I-don't-care attitude. After giving Advanced once, the first thing I said after stepping out of the exam hall was, "Dad, I'll never do this again."

Cracking JEE depends only on one factor which I lacked severely – incentive. Just two days before my Advanced paper I was actually planning on not giving the exam even though I knew it would be a waste of the gap year. One day before the exam I was just listening to music. Honestly, all I wanted was for Advanced to get over real quick.

I did give a few entrance exams – again, I gave the ones my dad wanted me to give. As I stated earlier, getting admission in an IIT was never on my bucket list. It just happened by accident. A fatal accident, I believe.

How my college experience changed me as a person

Yes, my college experience has changed me as a person. It has made me rather numb.

Honestly speaking, I don't do much at college. I personally hate this place. I don't even know why. Before coming here I used to be really passionate about writing and I would write daily. But it's been a while since I haven't written anything. Like around a month. Before coming to this place, I took part in NaNoWriMo consecutively and I had planned to do that this year as well. But it didn't happen. I didn't even write a full length novel or even a novella this year. I usually target on one full length novel every year along with several short stories, articles and blogs. This place makes me feel rather empty. I was always told that my views about getting in an IIT would change after I join the college but I don't see any of that happening here. And believe me it's got nothing to do with the college. Even if it would have been any other IIT or whatever I don't think anything would have changed.

Yes, my college experience has changed me as a person. It has made me rather numb. This place does provide me several opportunities, undoubtedly, so, I guess, it's got something to do with my reluctance.
