The Siberian court has decided to ban the Bhagavad Gita in whole Siberia.

On the basis of complaints regarding the text of Bhagwad Gita, the Siberian court has decided to ban the Bhagavad Gita in the country. It has been distributed locally by Iskcon, and apparently it 'advocates war' and forms 'extremist literature'. It is the case of misunderstanding and has become a cause of concern within the Russian society.

Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan considers Bhagwad Gita as the ultimate 'administrator's handbook'. It contains the words and messages of God and it is the only scripture which puts light on the spiritual knowledge. It is a pettifogging of relationships, desires and fears. Gita has many facades and every human being takes it in a different way.

Bhagwad Gita is one of the greatest religious classics of Hinduism, constituting a part in Mahabharata. It is the story of Krishna advising Arjuna, facing kin in battle, on how to proceed. Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a warrior and prince, and elaborates on different Yogic and Vedantic philosophies, and explains different ways in which the soul can reach the supreme being with examples and analogies.

The whole Siberian situation mirrors post-Soviet anxiety. They are hitting out at the small things since you can't touch the bigger ones. Coming from the nation that once gave the world the complexities of Dostoyevsky, the polished violence of Turgenev, banning the Gita due to nervousness is an irony.
